The funny thing about fashion: there’s an abundance of diverse styles and ways of wearing certain garments. Often, many
versions of a “complete look” are exact ways that you may have worn them yourself years before or even decades ago.
I remember being a teen and finding, (what I thought
at the time were) the most magnificient trousers to pair under my
worsted wool maxi skirt. All of this fashion sense was not nearly
because I was having a trendsetting mindset, however now that I think of
it, well it may have been. No, it was primarily because I was
sort of a tomboy and did not want to wear my long skirt at that time.
Fast forward to present, and Quelle surprise!
Androgyny now speaks boldly in the fashion world. But, as a blogger you
already knew that, right? Your too cool for school “it girl” style (at least in your world) will
soon be parading streets that have not just one name … but a following. Who
cares if you’re a big city gal or small town princess, or if it’s on trend or not! I just wear what I love, sometimes it falls in line with what’s happening and other times like these it’s a simple recycled look, only modernised!
(Above) 1-The versatile black maxi with built in bra-cups: Jordan Taylor Collection, 2-Tailored contrasted blazer-ACNE, 3-Mixed pattern jumper-Carven, 4-Bow loafers in suede-Miu Miu, 5-An exaggerated white blouse-ASOS.
Unabashedly “making it work” is a skill and an art, especially when
you know your style well. And, let’s not even talk about if you throw on
a pair of patent oxfords, vintage, and statement jewellery! Oh, wait, I had you at
“it girl,” didn’t I!
To honour the union of my tomboy
and ladylike style here are five things that I would presently wear. It’s fashion comfort basics with a sharpness of tailored delight! Ironically, it’s also five garment elements (above) and wicked styles (below) that I
have worn many times before as a teen sans the lace, if you can believe
that! Of course, today I would naturally gravitate to this more
polished approach, as technology and textiles are far better nowadays.
Lastly, take a look at the beautiful AW/13 campaign images from My Theresa. It truly spoke to me and had me remeniscent of my fashionable youth and custom stylings.
Do you wear any fashion elements from your youth? How do you make it work today?

I was a very classy girl in my youth 🙂 so, many trends from my youth I wear for the first time now, if that makes any sense!
Thanks! Yes, defintely … Carven is one of my favourites! /Madison
I'm also a fan of mixing tomboy and feminine elements! What a beutiful selection of clothes! Being a Carven fan, I love the jumper! Caterina

Liebe Rena,
Ich verstehe… Vielen Dank! Ich liebe Blazer!
Haben Sie einen guten Tag. LG / Madison xx
I love your story about wearing pants under your dress–I did the same in high school although god knows it must've looked pretty hideous, haha. I still wear lots of stripes, red and navy, sort of a messy preppy for life I guess.

Ich trage noch die Dirndl aus meiner Jugend 🙂 Any other things are already disposed … und ich liebe die Teile, die Du ausgewählt hast, der Acne Balzer ist einfach wunderbar <3

Thanks so much Roz. What a delightful comment. I can just imagine your grandad's outfit, especially the trousers, perhaps even cuffed on one side as well.
The picks are amazing and I agree with, wear what I love and I get "lucky" most times it falls along with what is in trend.
Thanks so much for reading and commenting dear. I used to hate dresses and now I wear them most of everyday, haha, I like both feminine and masculine elements! xx/M
Haha, so happy that you came to visit. Thank you very much! 🙂
I know, I want it badly! 🙂 xx
Wow, you are good! I must say, I did and do love bits of neon (in moderation), I think no matter where we may be wearing what you love should hold true for any day. At least, that's what I was taught. Thanks for your comment Kim. xx/Madison
My thoughts exactly! 🙂
Excatly, the same for me in many ways as well. Just more ladylike now for me, I suppose! 🙂 Thanks for commenting.
Oh, haha! 🙂 Danke für Deine süss kommentar. xo LG/Madison
Definitely, Lilli, many items just tend to come back around anyway for the most part, as you may have seen dungarees did as well. xx/Madison
Oh, I do remember wearing uniforms, uggh! haha! I adore all things Carven … and ACNE … and Erdem! 🙂
Yes, I loved the campaign as well.
Hiya dear, Yes I have seen Dexter and loved it! I have to catch up on the latest episodes. Glad that you enjoyed the post. Have a lovely week. Thanks for your comment. xx/Madison

Madison, I haven't incorporated anything from the 80's into my wardrobe. HAHAHA Not even splashes of neon yet. I love to see the past infused into present and future designs. I feel it all evolves. I love what you said, "I just wear what I love". That's the point! More people should do that. I'm finding out that Europeans do that more than over here in the States. I like that. Over here, it's too much about what's IN then we move onto the next thing. Lots more originality over there.

OMG, I love those Miu Miu shoes. They are so brilliant with the bow.

Funny you mention it because I was just thinking about my style now still echoes how I used to dress back when I wasn't even cognizant about style!
I love mixing tomboy style with some girlie element into my outfit! I think it brings out the best of both worlds 🙂

Yes, you did have me at "it girl"! Funny, charming post. You write so well. This is so entertaining.
I love those shoes, they are totally amazing. The jumper is so cool also!

Hi Madison! I still wear some garments from my youth, I kept the ones I loved most (for example a very old dungarees) and to make them work even today, I try to match them with the current trends. Love the Asos shirt and the MIu Miu shoes, the Mytheresa campaign is beautiful! Have a great week ahead dear, kisses! xo
I'm in love with that Carven sweater, Madison! Unfortunately, I don't really wear anything from my younger days, as I really had no fashion sense what so ever then. Thank God for school uniforms:) I do still have my prom dress. Does that count? It doesn't fit me, but I keep it for sentimental reasons.
love the colours! very well done!
Amazing selections!
Love those Miu Miu flats!

Your approach to style is always polished and impeccable.
One of my favourite androgynous outfits is the dinner jacket and trousers that belonged to my grandad. I have to belt the waist tightly to stop the trousers falling down, and pretend that the slightly shorter leg length is intentional, but I do love it.
The Asos blouse looks amazing!
Hey Madison, hope you had a lovely weekend! The boyfriend and I stayed in all day saturday and watched series one of Dexter, have you seen it? Wonderful post dear, completely in love with those Miu Miu's, they are perfection! 🙂
Take care and have a great week,
Daniella xox
love the blue long dress!

These are gorgeous. Love those shoes :)) I still wear elements from my youth, like leather jackets or brogues. Although, the style of them has changed since then. Trousers definitely have as well, I hated them growing up – even though i was a tomboy, because they never made them long enough for my legs and small enough in the waist for my tiny waist. But, now you can get jeans and other trousers in all the measurements you want without having to go to a tailor like you would have had to back then, it's definitely nicer, even though I rarely wear trousers now – although I love leggings. This was super doll. I hope you have a great start to the week 🙂 xx
I want that asos White blouse and I think that mythresa ad campaign is Amazing!
