Halloween will arrive now in just a matter of weeks, so I wanted to give you other alternatives this time for decorating. As previously shown, I provided you with loads of options that were both family-oriented and kid-friendly. This particular theme can actually be modified to suit teenagers as well, however, I put the décor focus on a more grown-up setting.
I recently threw an early Halloween night that was motivated by theatre and film, and even though it was early to partake in celebrations, my friends are always okay with themed gatherings. I teamed up with Oriental Trading again to show you some useful and festive pieces from their scroll of offerings for Halloween.
From dark comedy to novel based films from the past, we had everything that was all about Halloween fun with a touch of darkness, but in a tasteful way even for a typically ghastly (in the best possible way) occasion for others. To be honest, I am not a big horror film enthusiast. I used humour, films, and books with a lot of imagery as inspiration. Additionally, I included a somewhat alarming element to the table by using my framed DIY, then I made a few extra projects throughout the table.
Three Ways To Get Started:
- Games: If you’re looking for ideas that are captivating and engaging for your guests, then game night is my first suggestion. I married original games, such as charades, and even movie-themed trivia cards (hidden under plates) with this tablescape. For this movie night, I wanted everyone to have something to take home, which I decided would be the award statues alongside the goodie bags.
- Next, use a dated piece in your theme: This vintage lace fabric worked perfectly along with a cotton tablecloth underneath. You could even use an old candelabra, goblets, or wooden picture frames to add a little nostalgia to your table.
- Add playful elements that have character: Where do we start? You don’t have to go down the “silly” path when it comes to fun items. A fun aesthetic doesn’t have to mean “cheesy.” Simply think of a film or two that you like, and decorate around that theme or blend several films together as we did. We love humour and I decided to add a dose of comedy with the film clapper by writing on it, “parody, ” etc.
I enjoyed putting this theme together very much because of the premium selections that I had. This range included the following: skeleton stemware (I painted them antique gold), adorable spell books (Think, Happy Potter) that I used as treat boxes to fill with party mixes for guests, golden glittered skeleton treat bags, and a cinema-inspired cupcake tower, amongst other pieces.
Extras: For a recycling and revamping project, I spray painted this red striped Mylar balloon in black, and used a chalk pen to write “Boo” on the balloon.
